Sean Higgs' MLB Pitching Rotation notes

With MLB right around the corner, let me take a look at what I think are the 5 worse pitching staffs in baseball.

1 - ATLANTA BRAVES. Clearly in a rebuilding mode. They are led by JULIO TEHERAN. The kid is a solid 200 inning performer. Any other team, he would probably win 15-18 games. He is followed by MATT WISLER. He wasn't terrible after his June call up. But there will be more bumps over an entire season. BUD NORRIS is your veteran journey-man. Your prototypical mid-end rotation guy. JHOULYS CHACIN the old Rockies arm. I like this guy. Maybe he finally stays healthy. The last spot can be filled in with an array of mediocre stiffs.

2 - CINCINNATI REDS. Wow. Another team that I expect to be terrible. Fans will be miserable watching this. ANTHONY DESCLAFANI wasn't bad in his first full spin as a starter, but the offense behind him needs to improve. He should be one of the few bright spots on the Reds. RAISEL IGLESIAS looked fantastic striking out 104 in 95 innings last year. But, it was in half a year. Maybe he is the real deal, but could stumble as teams get more of book on him. ALFREDO SIMON returns after spending last year in Detroit. Maybe he catching lighting in a bottle again. I am guessing not. BRANDON FINNEGAN makes the spot based on HOMER BAILEY being hurt. The young lefty is getting a shot after an albeit, short, but decent showing last season. JON MOSCOT is another young arm here based on injuries. He wasn't bad or good in his 3 starts last year.

3 - MILWAUKEE BREWERS. I do like a few of these arms, but I think the team will not be able to keep pace with the top teams in the NL Central. JIMMY NELSON looks to take a big step forward because MATT GARZA is, well, Matt Garza. WILY PERALTA needs to find what he had in 2014 when he won 17 games. He was tabbed the opening day starter for the Brew Crew. TAYLOR JUNGMANN was a beast before running out of gas late. CHASE ANDERSON rounds out the rotation and the 5th spot is his to lose with shoddy play.

4- PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES. Man. Maybe I should have put these guys at the top. AARON NOLA is the top young gun here. He did a brave job on this team last year. JEREMY HELLICKSON. I like Hell-Boy. He made us cash when he was with the Rays. JERAD EICKHOFF is another youngster that Phillie defense will test his mettle. CHARLIE MORTON is another back-end, journeyman type that soft-tosses himself into .500 records. VINCE VELASQUEZ was the center piece of the Giles trade with the Astros. He looks to be penciled in for the 5th spot.

5- LAA ANGELS - Ok. GARRETT RICHARDS is a decent pitcher. But the guys behind drag him down. JARED WEAVER by all accounts has lost his velocity. He is soft tossing himself into a 5th starter. ANDREW HEANEY is a youngster who showed some potential early last year. MATT SHOEMAKER met reality after his 16-4 rookie year. Angles will gladly take something in between. HECTOR SANTIAGO and CJ WILSON are looking for starts also. Even with Mike Trout hitting, this staff will have a hard time winning a lot of games.

This isn't based on any fantasy value. I think these teams will be in the cellar of their respected divisions.
